The Hottest New Design Trends for 2018

If you are looking for an interior decorator, Houston has some of the best designers in the nation. And now that a new year has come around once again many people are searching for those next “it” designs so they can be the first to show off their homes in style.

Here are some of the hottest new design trends for 2018.

2018 Color of the Year

Millennial pink is out and lavender is now the new color of the year. So make sure you contact your interior designer to talk about how she will be using lavender or lilac in your home for this year’s makeover. But don’t worry if you still prefer the millennial pink because it’s still being used. If you want a new look but would like to keep your millennial pink, ask your designer if she could come up with some unique ways to combine the two.

Hard Geometric Designs

Circles are in and triangle shapes are out. Using hard geometrical shapes such as circles is a great way to add splashes of color and contrast to any room. You can start small by finding something such as an accent pillow that has the colors and circle pattern you like then build out the rest your design from there.

Brass is Back

Brushed nickel is out and brass accents are back. Using brass accents is a subtle way to make any room feel warmer and more inviting without being overbearing to the point of being obnoxious. Brass is a great substitute for brushed nickel and stainless steel which has been overused for years.

Agate Wallpaper

Yep, you heard that right, wallpaper, but not in the way you think. If you look at the small boutiques, they are currently using geode and agate wallpaper which is just beautiful and very unique. And because the smaller upscale boutiques are already using it, you will soon see this trend become more mainstream.

Bold Patterns

This year bold patterns are making a comeback. Big, bold, feminine floral patterns with a more casual look and feel to them will be big this year along with geometric shapes as we mentioned above.

Can You Say Velvet?

Velvet is another trend expected to be popular this year; however, this one might not last long. But if you do decide to go with a velvet look for 2018, deep blue velvet would be a good choice unless you want a more subtle look then going with a soft gray velvet might be more your style.

Woven Basket Type Textures

As far as textures go, the woven basket and other types of natural artisan textures are in. Using accessories with woven textures is a great way to enhance the look and feel of any room.
